Find Kiowa Civil Dockets

Need a Kiowa County civil docket? Start with the District Court clerk, whose office keeps the official case file, and use the statewide search for public case information. A civil docket search here can run on a full case number, a party name, or a business name. The docket itself lists filings, orders, hearings, and outcomes in a noncriminal case. Not everything is online, though. Family documents, sealed material, and filings left off the internet may take a courthouse terminal or a direct records request.

Kiowa County Civil Docket Searches

Kansas Case Search is the public online route to Kiowa County civil cases. Pick District. Select Kiowa County. Then choose a search type: Case Number, Party Name, Business Name, or Party As Business Name. Open Additional Search Filters and choose Civil. A broad result set shrinks fast when you add file-date limits. Before results load, complete the terms and the human-check controls.

Use the full case number whenever you have it. For a person, follow the official Last Name, First Name syntax. An organization needs at least four characters. The supported wildcard is best saved for genuine need. If the public item still does not surface, try the courthouse terminal. The clerk's counter or a specific records request are other options.

  1. Open the portal and accept its terms.
  2. Choose District and Kiowa County.
  3. Select the right name or number search.
  4. Choose Civil and set useful filing dates.
  5. Read the newest events and any hearing entry.
  6. Ask the clerk for the official document or certification.

Kiowa Civil Number Format

One official Kiowa County public notice shows KW-2024-CV-000002. Here KW marks the county, 2024 the filing year, CV the civil series, and the final digits the sequence. A second notice lists KW-2024-CV-000016. Always keep the leading zeroes when you search.

Notices sometimes shorten a number for display, but the portal's own tips call for the complete value. Missing county prefix? Just select Kiowa in the county field. Never guess at a subtype code. The court publishes no complete Kiowa code glossary.

Civil Dockets: What They Show

Think of the events index as a chronological map, not the whole case file. A public result can still carry plenty: enough context to identify the case, a view of court action, and the location of a hearing. It may also link to a document image when that filing is public, digitized, and allowed at your access level.

Case headerCase number, court, filing date, broad category, status, and judicial officer when permitted.
PartiesParty roles and attorney information where public.
EventsChronological filings, appearances, motions, orders, and other court action.
SettingsHearing dates and any time, room, or type actually shown.
DispositionPublic judgment, dismissal, or other outcome text when available.

Guests should not expect every detail. A judgment balance, the amount in controversy, service returns, and pleading images are not fields a guest view guarantees. For an official copy, the clerk is the source.

Limited Actions Shape Kiowa Dockets

The Kansas Judicial Branch FY2025 civil report counts 97 civil filings in Kiowa County. Limited actions dominated the civil docket. Contracts drove nearly all of them. The rest split between regular actions and domestic matters.

The breakdown tells the story. Of the 97 filings, 69 limited actions were contract matters. Another 15 were regular actions. The final 12 fell under domestic relations.

70limited actions
15regular actions
12domestic relations

These numbers cover the fiscal period ending June 30, 2025. They are court-report categories, not named parties or the merits of any case. A limited-action count also says nothing about how long a new matter will take.

What Cases Fill the Civil Docket

The Kiowa County District Court civil docket holds regular actions, limited actions, domestic-relations cases, and small claims. The annual report splits regular actions further into contract, other, real-property, and tort filings. Domestic-relations reporting spans marital status, parentage, protection from abuse, and protection from stalking.

  • Regular contract, property, tort, and other actions
  • Limited actions, including the report's contract category
  • Domestic-relations and parentage matters
  • Protection-order cases subject to access limits
  • Small claims kept by the unified District Court clerk

Family sits on the live portal as its own broad filter. Match the category to the official case information instead of forcing every noncriminal matter into Civil.

Deed or Kiowa Civil Filing?

A deed, mortgage, or other land instrument lives with the Kiowa County Register of Deeds. A real-property lawsuit, a foreclosure judgment, a motion, or a sheriff-sale event belongs to the District Court case record instead. The two offices share a courthouse address. They do not share custody.

The Register of Deeds publishes per-page charges, but those apply to land records only. Quoting them as District Court copy fees would mislead. The court's own copy fees appear in no official local material.

Hearings on the Civil Docket

A civil events index may list a scheduled hearing. It may also show a motion setting or an order that shifts a date. Read the latest event before trusting an older one. File Date From and File Date To narrow by when a case began. They will not serve as a day-calendar search.

Kiowa County posts no standalone daily court calendar. An uncertain setting is best confirmed with the Clerk of the District Court at 620-723-3317. The courthouse terminal can also expose public information that the internet does not. The full fallback process sits in the Kiowa County court schedule.

Forty Pending Civil Matters

The official FY2025 pending report counted 40 Kiowa County civil matters at period end. The split was 10 regular, 27 limited, and 3 domestic-relations. Of the regular pending matters, 20 percent were more than 24 months old. The limited and domestic-relations categories showed none in that age band. Wait, that should read domestic-relations, and it showed none.

Pending inventory is not new filings, and it is not delay for each case. It is a snapshot. The companion report's 95 dispositions may include cases filed before that fiscal year. Those distinctions matter. They keep aggregate data from being mistaken for a promise about any one civil docket.

Who Can See Civil Dockets

Kansas Supreme Court Rule 22 opens public case information and events indices to anyone, through the portal or a courthouse terminal. Not everything is public, though. Sensitive case types and most filed documents stay out. So a visible case header does not mean every family, custody, support, dissolution, parentage, protection-order, guardianship, or exhibit document is downloadable.

Need a filed pleading, an older paper file, a plain copy, or a certified judgment? Contact the Kiowa County District Court at 211 E Florida Avenue in Greensburg. The counter is open Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. A written KORA request can name the case number, the document, a date range, a delivery method, and whether certification is required. The court does not publish exact copy fees or turnaround times.

Public access: Rule 22 governs portal and terminal access. K.S.A. 45-218 sets the public-record request framework. A delay or denial requires an explanation, but the third-business-day rule is not a promise that copies will be ready then.

Kiowa County's civil docket load has grown. The fiscal report for FY2024 counted 87 civil filings. The split was 54 limited actions, 21 domestic-relations matters, and 12 regular actions. FY2025 brought 97 filings in all, with the mix shifting again. Those numbers describe the clerk's workload, not any single case. A case header and a filed document are two different things, too. The header identifies the case and traces its events. A pleading, order, or scanned image may be open or closed. That depends on its type, digitization, and court rules. A portal printout is not automatically certified. Ask the clerk for the exact document, and say whether a plain or certified copy is needed.

The FY2025 disposition report draws one more line worth knowing. Kiowa County recorded 95 civil dispositions: 61 limited actions, 18 domestic-relations matters, and 16 regular actions. Dispositions in a fiscal year are not always decisions in cases filed that same year. You cannot subtract them from the 97 new filings and get the pending inventory. The separate pending report holds that snapshot. Among the 15 newly filed regular actions, the official categories were five contract, four other, four real-property, and two tort matters. The 12 domestic-relations filings broke down further. There were two marital-status, one other, one parentage, two Protection from Abuse, and six Protection from Stalking entries. Helpful labels, but they do not loosen Rule 22. Nor do they promise that a named filing, party, or document will appear to an internet guest.

Classification matters when you search the portal. Civil, Family, and Probate or Mental Health are separate filters even though all of it is noncriminal District Court work. Start with the category shown on the case paper rather than running one name through every filter. Municipal cases are different again. Greensburg, Haviland, and Mullinville municipal clerks keep their own ordinance cases. If a civil docket search returns nothing, confirm the court and category first. Do not read the empty result as proof that no case exists.
